Farmingdale Robotics Team is the Best in Nassau County
Farmingdale High School’s ‘VEXcalibur’ Team Qualifies to Advance to the New York State VEX Competition
The Farmingdale School District announced today that the Farmingdale High School robotics team recently finished as Tournament Champions at the VEX Competitions Regional Qualifier, held at Massapequa Middle School and hosted by the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation. The victory qualifies the team to compete in the New York State VEX Competition and National CREATE VEX Championship. If they win at the state level, they advance to the VEX Worlds Competition.
“The District is immensely proud of these talented students. Their accomplishments represent the caliber of talent and ambition emblematic of Farmingdale students,” said Farmingdale School District Superintendent John Lorentz. “The District will continue to grow its rigorous STEM program at all levels to support the success of all students both today and for generations to come.”
To secure their victory, Farmingdale High School’s ‘VEXcalibur’ robotics team designed, built and programmed a robot to play against 35 other teams from the region as part of the competition’s engineering challenge. Forming a strategic alliance with Newfield and Harvey High Schools, VEXcalibur scored a decisive victory against a Jericho High School alliance team in the finals.
“The technical and communications skills these students are learning and practicing during these competitions will serve them throughout the rest of their lives as they take on the challenges of tomorrow,” said Farmingdale High School Principal Dr. Samuel Thompson. “This recognition is a testament not only to the extraordinary accomplishments of these students but to the teachers, parents and advisors who supported the team pursuit of their goals.”
