Farmingdale Parents and Teachers Team Up to Stop Bullying
Farmingdale High School Parent-Teacher Association Hosts Cyberbullying Program
The Farmingdale High School Parent-Teacher Association recently hosted an informative program on bullying featuring the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying (LICAB). This program was part of a Districtwide initiative to eradicate cyberbullying and help inform parents and the community about how to recognize early warning signs.
During the presentation, LICAB Community Workshop Coordinator Laura Campbell and Executive Director Joe Salamone spoke extensively on how bullying has changed in the digital age, how to talk with a child suspected as being bullied and steps to take to find a resolution to the situation. Cyberbullying encompasses online harassment through texting, gaming and posting to social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter, with posting of bullying videos online. Parents were able to discuss cyberbullying directly with experts and learn how to prevent their child from becoming a victim or perpetrator.
