The sun caught the edges of the infield dirt as 92-year-old Jack Muratore stepped toward the pitcher’s mound, a baseball gripped in his hand just as it had been 75 years ago. For a moment, the cheering crowd at Farmingdale High School faded, replaced by the echoes of the 1951 championship season where Mr. Muratore served as the starting third baseman for the Nassau County Champions.
Returning to his alma mater for the 2026 season opener, Mr. Muratore was the guest of honor, invited to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. The event was more than a tribute to a former athlete; it was a bridge between generations of Daler excellence. Coach Frank Tassielli shared heartfelt remarks before the game, honoring Mr. Muratore’s history both on the Farmingdale dirt and his later service in the U.S. Army.
The impact of the evening was visible as the current Varsity Baseball team lined up to shake hands with a man who helped build the program’s winning tradition. The pride on Mr. Muratore’s face—and the tears of joy afterward—reminded everyone in attendance that being a Daler is a lifelong bond.
As the 2026 season begins, the current team carries with them the spirit of the 1951 champions. We look forward to seeing our student-athletes build their own legacies on the foundation laid by legends like Jack Muratore.
