Girls’ Lacrosse Team Pay It Forward with Surprise Donation to Young Cancer Survivor

At the 2018 Varsity Athletic Awards—held June 7th—Farmingdale High School’s Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse Team presented a surprise donation to their biggest fan, four-year-old Bella Inzerillo.

Five members of the team who were slated to receive the school’s prestigious Tracy Wiener Provenz and Shari Campbell Pay it Forward Scholarship—which goes to graduating seniors who have shown strong leadership and a commitment to community service—decided to forgo their scholarship money and donate it to the young Farmingdale resident. This donation—amounting to over $2,000—will help support Bella’s ongoing cancer treatment.

The five students foregoing their scholarships are: McKenzie Gaghan, Julia Cambria, Maria Krieg, Brianna McGowan, and Hannah Rzempolouch. Over $5,000 has been previously donated by the lacrosse team, and last December Bella was inducted to the team as an honorary member and given a #6 jersey.

The donation came as a complete surprise to Bella and her family who attended the evening ceremony. In addition to paying forward their scholarship money, the five players and Tracy Wiener-Provenz surprised Bella with a plaque engraved with her name and presented her with another #6 jersey to acknowledge her strength and thank her for the support she has shown them throughout the season.
