Keep Calm and Daler On!

The Wellness Council of the Farmingdale School District hosted a night of healthy mind and body workshops on Wednesday evening, January 23, 2019, at Weldon E. Howitt Middle School. The evening included yoga, drum circles, calming activities, and a sampling of healthy foods and snacks. The PTA also held a blood drive in the cafeteria with elementary students dressed up as little doctors.

This was the 4th annual event sponsored by the Wellness Council, which attracted approximately 120 students and parents to participate in the evening workshop. Attendees were encouraged to make it a practice to Eat the Rainbow—a healthy eating initiative that stresses the importance of including a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables into your diet. There was a sampling of yummy foods, donated by local merchants such as Stew Leonard’s, Shoprite, and Restoration Farm.

“It was an opportunity to learn healthy habits and have a really fun evening,” said Dr. Joan Ripley, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning. “A lot of children are dealing with anxiety, and this program gave them some tools they can use to overcome stress. Everyone learned how to keep calm and Daler on!”
