Seven Farmingdale High School students from the Interact Club—along with advisors, Ms. Haniquet and Ms. McDonough— spent Friday, March 29, 2019 working on a Habitat for Humanity house in Bellport. Geared in protective clothing and masks, they taped down every seam of insulation in a five-room house. They also painted a boiler room, broke up cement and concrete pavers, and learned how to make a home more energy efficient.
Over the course of the day, students had the opportunity to interact with project leaders from the construction crew, AmeriCorps, and Habitat for Humanity, to learn about other opportunities to volunteer, as well as the personal satisfaction that comes with it.
The day began with a group photo and ended with students writing well-wishes for the incoming family on the interior studs of the home.
