FHS Art Honor Society Students Donate Art Kits to Sloan Kettering
Students from Farmingdale High School’s National Art Honor Society recently donated art kits to provide solace for pediatric cancer patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering in Manhattan. They created coloring pages and compiled donations of supplies into 40 large art kits. The kits were lovingly delivered in memory of South Farmingdale firefighter Harry Sack, father of the FHS National Art Honor Society Secretary Hailey Vanatko. Mr. Sack recently lost his battle with cancer. He was treated at Sloan and Hailey wanted to provide gifts for the pediatric patients she often encountered while visiting her dad.
"These students have shown compassion in honoring a very special community member. I am grateful to have the opportunity not only to help keep Hailey's dad's spirit alive, but to also bring smiles to the pediatric patients who have to be courageous every day of their lives,” said teacher Laura Steffen. As a firefighter, Harry Sack had amazing courage as well. National Art Honor Society shares their talents with the community in various ways, but this fundraiser has been the brightest of them all, because now Harry Sack's memory shines brightly."
