Standing in reverent silence on the wind-swept grounds of Shanksville, Pennsylvania, students listened intently as history transformed from textbook pages into living memory.

From August 19 through August 21, students and staff from Farmingdale High School participated in a profound educational trip sponsored by the Gary Sinise Foundation. Joined by peers from Wantagh High School, our students visited the Flight 93 National Memorial to honor extraordinary courage and national unity.

Personal Stories of Courage and Sacrifice

Military veterans John Hamilton, Dudley Capps, and Doc Jacobs shared firsthand experiences of service and sacrifice with our students. Ken Nacke and Gordy Felt offered deeply moving accounts of their brothers, who lost their lives heroically aboard Flight 93. Hearing these personal accounts provided our young leaders with an unforgettable lesson in selflessness, duty, and patriotism.

Carrying the Legacy Forward

Our district remains deeply grateful to the Gary Sinise Foundation and its dedicated volunteers for making this life-changing experience possible. As these students return to our classrooms, they bring home a renewed understanding of civic responsibility, ensuring the stories of September 11th’s heroes will continue to inspire our entire school community.
