Election Information
There will be two (2) open seats on the Board of Education this year. The terms will run from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029. Nominating petitions for Board of Education candidates can be picked up in person on school days at the District Clerk’s office, Central Administration at Howitt Middle School, 50 Van Cott Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735. Please contact the District Clerk at 516-434-5002 to schedule an appointment. Completed petitions must be filed with the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 19, 2026.
Qualifications for Candidacy on the Board of Education
Those who run for membership on the Board of Education must, among other things:
- Be a citizen of the United States of America
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age
- Be able to read and write
- Be a resident of the Farmingdale School District continuously for one (1) year
- Be a qualified voter of the District
- Not be employed by the Board on which they will serve
- Not live in the same household with a family member who is also a member of the same school board
Voting Information
If you have voted in any school or general election between 2022 and 2025, you are registered to vote in the school election for Tuesday, May 19, 2026. If you have not voted during this time, or if you are not registered, you may register if you are 18 years of age or older, a citizen of the United States, and have lived in the district for at least 30 days.
Qualified individuals may register through the DMV Electronic Voter Registration Application link or at the Office of the District Clerk, Howitt Middle School, Central Administration Office, 50 Van Cott Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735. Please call the District Clerk, 516-434-5002 to schedule an appointment. Please note that registration with the District Clerk only registers an individual to vote in the Farmingdale School District elections. Residents must be registered by Thursday, May 14, 2026, to vote on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
Absentee Ballots/Early Mail Ballots Information
- Qualified Farmingdale resident voters may obtain applications for absentee/early mail ballots for the school district vote on the proposed budget.
- Absentee/Early mail ballot applications can be obtained by clicking the links below or by contacting the Office of the District Clerk at (516) 434-5002.
- Absentee ballots are automatically sent to residents who are qualified voters and whose registration records have been marked "permanently disabled" by the Board of Elections.
- Completed absentee/early mail ballots from approved applicants must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5pm on the day of the budget vote, Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in the Office of the District Clerk.
Request for Public Access to Records
Requests for public access to records under the Freedom of Information Legislation (FOIL) may be submitted electronically to the District Clerk at districtclerk@farmingdaleschools.org. Subsequent communication using this method will be via email.
