On September 24, 2026, Director Brian Calhoun and the Calhoun Drum Academy visited Saltzman East Memorial Elementary School for two energetic assemblies centered on the message that music is for everyone. The interactive sessions introduced elementary students to professional performers, demonstrated different types of drums and their unique sounds, and culminated in a finale where students joined the ensemble on stage. 

The event held special meaning for Director Brian Calhoun, who told the audience that his passion for music began in that exact building, where he first picked up drumsticks as a student. This visit built upon district initiatives from the 2025-2026 school year, during which the Calhoun Drum Academy and its All Abilities Drumline collaborated with the Farmingdale High School Marching Band for unified performances. Award-winning New York City filmmakers documented those collaborative milestones for an upcoming professional film exploring inclusion in music education.

The district remains dedicated to offering inclusive arts programs that encourage every student to discover their rhythm and potential.
