One Evening to Unplug, Play, and Connect Across the District

The district is hosting Family Fun Night on October 21, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Farmingdale High School to encourage students from pre-K through high school age to put down their devices and enjoy screen-free play together. Spearheaded by the Districtwide Shared Decision Making Committee, this district effort brings families together from across all grade levels for an interactive evening of high-energy games, creative challenges, and school spirit.
To give students the complete freedom to participate without feeling backed up with schoolwork, the administration is asking all staff to keep students free from work. There will be no homework, studying, tests, or quizzes scheduled for the following day. Families exploring Farmingdale High School will find dedicated activity zones tailored to every age group and interest:
- Large Gym featuring Tug-of-War, Gaga Pit games, Nuke ’Em, Granny Pants, and potato sack races designed for younger students
- South Gym featuring Dodgeball, Cornhole, KanJam, ping pong, and interactive frame games designed for older students
- Wrestling Room featuring fast-paced Nerf Battles
- Lobby featuring a live DJ, axe throwing, football, and air games
- Specialty rooms featuring hands-on activities hosted by the Robotics Club, Chess Club, art departments, and sensory yoga leaders
- Cafeteria featuring 10 carnival tabletop games along with fresh cotton candy and popcorn
"We wanted to create a meaningful opportunity for our students to disconnect from their devices, set aside their schoolwork, and just be kids," said Superintendent Paul Defendini. "By clearing assignments for the next day, we hope every family feels fully supported to join us for an unforgettable evening of fun."
