Champions of Kindness: Farmingdale Educators Named School Heroes

Twenty-nine educators across Long Island, including Farmingdale School District Social Workers Josseline Morales and Lauren Vega, were honored as School Heroes by the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying on October 19 at 6:00 p.m. The recognition took place during a celebratory reception at the Watermill in Smithtown to honor professionals who dedicate themselves to creating safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments.
The evening brought together educators, community leaders, family members, and colleagues to acknowledge the profound impact these leaders make each day. Within the district, both honorees have consistently championed proactive anti-bullying initiatives, student mental health programs, and peer support efforts throughout the school year.
Coalition Founder and Executive Director Joe Salamone emphasized the deep personal connection required to build truly supportive school cultures.
“Our honorees remind us that real impact is not measured in statistics or applause, but in the single moment, single student, and single act of kindness that can alter a child’s path,” said Executive Director Joe Salamone.
