Entrance to School
A child may enter kindergarten in September if she or he will be five years old on or before December 1st of the school year. Kindergarten registration will be held in March. Parents of pre-school age children, who are on the school census, are notified of time and place of registration. All others should come to the Student Registration Department at the Howitt Middle School to prove residency and be put on the school census.
A child who has had a full year of kindergarten in an approved school will be admitted to the first grade. Students who are six years old and have not attended kindergarten will be entered initially into kindergarten and advanced according to ability.
New and Transfer Students
During the school year, new residents are admitted at the Student Registration Department located in the Howitt Middle School (Grant Avenue entrance) Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Proof of residency and original birth certificate are required for registration. For school-age children, mandated immunizations, health records, and prior school report card are also required for registration.
