The Farmingdale School District marked its second year of advanced emergency response training with an Active Assailant Response Drill at Albany Avenue Elementary School, continuing its unique, comprehensive approach to school safety and emergency preparedness.
The drill included several carefully planned scenarios designed to simulate real-time threats and test the district's rapid response capabilities. The objectives centered on improving communication and coordination between school personnel, local law enforcement, and armed security contractors to execute swift campus lockdowns, transition to an armed response, and ensure coordinated post-incident accountability and recovery.
This full-scale simulation was made possible through Farmingdale's ongoing collaboration with numerous law enforcement and emergency response agencies, including:
- Upfront Security Associates (the school's armed security team)
- Nassau County Police Department Homeland Security
- Nassau County Police Department Bureau of Special Operations
- Nassau County Police Department Problem-Oriented Police Unit
- Nassau County Police Department Law Enforcement ExplorersÂ
- Suffolk County Police Department School Resource Officers
- Suffolk County Police Department Emergency Service Section
- Suffolk County Police Department Homeland Security
- New York State Police Department
- Farmingdale Village Fire Department
- North Massapequa Fire Department
- Farmingdale School District Board of Education MembersÂ
- Farmingdale School District Administrators
Throughout the day, scenarios were executed where lockdowns were initiated, armed security responded immediately, and teams coordinated directly with local law enforcement to neutralize threats and manage recovery efforts. These exercises refined tactical movement, containment, and recovery protocols.
"Farmingdale is proud to continue efforts towards a seamless response to an active assailant threat by hosting our second annual full-scale active assailant drill in collaboration with local and regional law enforcement," said Assistant Superintendent for Administration Dr. Samuel Thompson. "We take the safety of our students and staff seriously, and returning to these exercises year after year is vital for continuously refining our communication, coordination, and response protocols."
Through ongoing training and strong partnerships with law enforcement and emergency responders, Farmingdale School District continues to strengthen its school safety efforts. This commitment reflects the district's dedication to providing a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff.
