Farmingdale residents overwhelmingly approved the Farmingdale School District’s 2019-2020 budget. The $171,083,800 budget passed with 1,127 yes votes and 581 no votes. Also passed was Proposition II — the Farmingdale Youth Council Budget for fiscal year 2019-2020.
Alayna Camisa—Farmingdale High School’s enthusiastic Dale the Lion Mascot for the past four years— has been named the female recipient of the Dr. James Tolle Unsung Heroine Award. The honor—which comes with a plaque and a check for a thousand dollars—will be bestowed at the Todd Heimer Administrators/Secretarial Luncheon on Friday, June 14, 2019 at the Westbury Manor.
On Saturday, May 11th, kindergarten students from Ms. Lauren McKnight’s class at Northside Elementary School and third graders from Mrs. Kathleen Sokolowski’s class at Saltzman East Memorial Elementary School traveled to Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay to write, sketch, and explore nature.
The Farmingdale School District’s annual District Art Show was held May 14, 2019 at Weldon E. Howitt Middle School. Open to the public, it featured artwork from all six schools in a variety of mediums, including: oil, sculpture, mixed media, drawing, watercolor, fashion, and photography.
For the 30th consecutive season—marking ten years— all Farmingdale High School varsity teams have achieved scholar athlete status! The spring teams include 321 students, participating in the sports of: boys lacrosse, girls lacrosse, baseball, softball, boys spring track, girls spring track, boys tennis, and badminton.

On Wednesday evening, May 1, 2019, Superintendent Paul Defendini and the Farmingdale Board of Education hosted a ceremony in the middle school to celebrate the many students who shaved their heads or cut their hair in support of St. Baldrick’s Day. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that raises funds to help find cures for children with cancer.
Three more distinguished Dalers now grace the walls of Farmingdale High School’s Wall of Fame. The newly inducted alumni are Paul Defendini (Class of 1997), Carol Kellermann (Class of 1969), and Steven Tiscione (Class of 1995). They were inducted during an early evening ceremony and reception at the high school on Monday, April 29, 2019.
Farmingdale High School French language students are touring the district’s elementary schools to spread awareness about a gorilla conservation project, which is being helped by the collection of small electronics.
The Saltzman East Memorial Elementary School Drama Club staged two performances of The Wizard of Oz on Tuesday, April 16th. Younger grades were treated to a morning performance, and the older grades—plus parents—were invited to an afternoon show.
