    • Students, did you know that the cost of a Boarshead Sandwich on the Deli Line in the cafeterias is the same price as a hot school lunch?  EVERY student is welcome to have a sandwich in place of the hot lunch ANYTIME. There is no extra charge and you get a drink and side with it as well.


    • Paperwork for Spring Sports should be handed in to the Health Office as soon as possible to be processed for the first day of sports. Athletes who need a sports physical with the school doctor should speak with a nurse in the Health Office to obtain a physical form and make an appointment for Tuesday, March 26.


    • Calling all gardeners! Mr. August & Mrs. McCarthy are happy to announce the start of a new club called the Garden Club. Do you enjoy getting outside and planting things? If you think you would like to learn more about sustainable gardening practices and how we can help our environment, then this may be the club for you! Join Mr. August and Mrs. McCarthy as they continue to create Howitt’s Sustainable Garden in the 6th grade courtyard. The first meeting will be on Wednesday, April 3, in room 707.


    • This is the last day of Howitt’s World Language Week. Today’s World Culture Trivia Contest question is: What is the most spoken language in the world today, and how many people speak this language?”


    • Today’s 6th grade Lunch Chorus and Concert Choir with Mr. Hulse will be for all members.


    • Szabo's and Mr. Segale’s rotations are both CANCELLED for today.


    • 8th grade girls interested in becoming a Farmingdale Dalerette should attend the middle school tryouts after school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:00- 5:30 in the East Gym. Those students trying out should remember to wear athletic clothing and sneakers.  


    • 8th grade boys interested in pitching or catching for the baseball team should bring their own equipment and attend tryouts on Monday after school in the East Gym. Any questions, please see Mr. Neu.

  • The Addams Family

    The talented Howitt Players gave two performances of The Addams Family this past weekend at Weldon E. Howitt Middle School. The musical comedy featured Mia Smith as Morticia Adams and Quinn Bunting in the role of Gomez Addams.

  • Howitt Middle School Hosts Genre Con 2019

    The library staff at Howitt Middle School hosted its first building-wide Genre Con on Saturday, March 9, 2019. It was a celebration of all the different genres of storytelling encompassed in art, literature, and pop culture. More than a hundred children in grades 6-8 participated, and everyone was encouraged to come in costume!

  • Farmingdale Student-Musicians Perform at Long Island String Festival

    Six students (grades 5-8) participated in the Long Island String Festival Association (LISFA) Nassau Intermediate concert—held Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Uniondale High School. They included: Arora Devanshi, Kelsey Amiruddin, Samantha Klein, Patrick Wang, Seamus Vereline, and Robert Baldwin.

    A large contingency of Farmingdale School District administrators, teachers, and members of the board of education attended the Nassau Region PTA Legislative Action Breakfast at the Heritage Club at Bethpage on Saturday, March 2, 2019.

    Weldon E. Howitt Middle School took part in the Sandy Hook Promise Say Something Call to Action week. The week’s activities were organized by the Building Safety Committee and Building Wellness Committee.

  • Long Island Writing Project

    Farmingdale teachers from across the district gathered on a recent Saturday morning to participate in a Long Island Writing Project (LIWP) workshop centered around teaching social comprehension. The LIWP is an organization of Long Island teachers (K-12), who believe in the power of collaboration and the transformative power of writing.

  • 6th Annual P.S. I Love You Day at Farmingdale School District

    The Farmingdale High School and Howitt Middle School population was peppered in purple last Friday for P.S. I Love you Day. This was the 9th year for the event and the 6th year that Farmingdale has participated. The mission of the day is suicide prevention.

  • 26 Farmingdale Student-Artists Selected for Tilles Center Exhibition

    Twenty-six pieces of artwork by seventh and eighth grade student-artists at Weldon E. Howitt Middle School went on display this week at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts at LIU Post. The pieces were selected from the classrooms of art teachers Barbara Ginexi-Waters, Alicia Byers, Jamie Capasso, and Lisa Gramarossa.
