WATCH: A new video message from the Superintendent of Schools re: Budget Vote and Election

transcript below

Hello to Our Farmingdale Family. This is Paul Defendini, and today is Wednesday, April 23, 2025.

Each year, Farmingdale Schools invests significant time and effort into developing a responsible financial plan that supports our students and the broader community. We also work hard to communicate that plan clearly so voters have the information they need to make informed decisions during the annual budget vote and election in May. During my 18 years serving this community, these efforts have consistently resulted in strong support for our budget.

In recent years, we’ve all seen a shift in the tone and dynamics within our community. Much of this has played out on social media and, to be fair, reflects larger trends we’re seeing at both the state and national levels. I believe that left unchecked, or worse, ignored, these shifts can have a lasting impact on our local community.

During key moments in the past: through the COVID pandemic, during periods of tension, and after significant events like the September 2023 bus tragedy, we’ve made it a priority to communicate more often and more clearly. I believe we’re at another one of those moments now.

As we approach the May 20, 2025, budget vote and election, it’s more important than ever to stay informed. Please ask questions and seek answers from reliable sources.

In the coming weeks, you’ll receive several flyers designed to help you better understand this year’s proposed budget. These flyers will be sent to you electronically, and they will also be mailed home to you soon.

  • The first will highlight the value of your tax dollars, showing how they directly support student programs and services.
  • The second will break down the budget in a straightforward way, helping you understand how your investment benefits our schools.
  • The third will emphasize the importance of voting—because your voice matters, now more than ever. There is a real difference between a passed and a defeated budget, and we want you to be fully informed about what’s at stake.

As always, if you need to find me, you know where to look. I’m here—proud to serve and stand with you in support of this great community.
